DARYLE LAMONICA
Daryle Lamonica was born in Fresno, California and grew up on a farm raising peaches and grapes. His first big sports thrill was playing in the Little League World Series in Hershey Park, Pennsylvania. Daryle lettered in four sports at Clovis High School, was All-State QB, and turned down a professional baseball contact with the Chicago Cubs. Clovis high school named their football stadium "Daryle Lamonica Stadium" in 1974.
Lamonica accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated with a business management degree. He was an All-American and the starting QB for three years, and still holds (tied) the school record of 4 TD passes in one game. Daryle was voted MVP in the 1963 East-West Shrine Game under coach Ara Parseghian. He was drafted by the NFL Green Bay Packers and by the AFL Buffalo Bills.
Daryle started his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills and became the starting QB for the Oakland Raiders in 1967. He was nicknamed the "Mad Bomber" by Howard Cosell for his ability to throw long touchdown passes. He led the Raiders to a 37-4-1 record in his first three years, throwing 89 touchdown passes. Voted the AFL's MVP in 1967 and again in 1969, Daryle was the starting QB in Super Bowl ll against the Green Bay Packers. He was voted to the Pro Bowl four times, inducted into the Fresno Hall of Fame 1971, and also into the Italian American Hall of Fame 1987.
Lamonica likes golfing and fishing and has a passion for our great outdoors. He enjoys public speaking and corporate outings and has represented corporations such as Motorola, Ford Credit, Chrysler, Pelco and Triton Boats, and Grubb & Ellis. He has been a guest and host for numerous national outdoor TV shows.
Lamonica resides in Fresno, California with wife Mary and two sons Brian and Brandon.
