DAVE SCHULTZ
During his eight years in the National Hockey League, Dave Schultz was one of the most feared enforcers the game has ever known. The man they called “The Hammer” became a regular with the Philadelphia Flyers in the fall of 1972. Hockey had never seen anything like Schultz, who managed to terrorize the rest of the NHL. As a rookie in 1972-73 he led the league with 259 penalty minutes. Those totals increased in each of the next two seasons until he set the single season record of 472 penalty minutes in 1974-75. But Dave Schultz was more than just a fighter - he could also score goals. He recorded 20 goals and 36 points in 1973-74. He played a key role in helping the Flyers win Stanley Cup Championships in 1974 and 1975. According to the late Gene Hart, broadcaster of the Philadelphia Flyers, “The primary contribution Dave made to the hockey club was he gave them an identity, which was a tremendous thing for one player to do. It was because of Dave Schultz that they were given the nickname the “Broad Street Bullies.”
Dave Schultz’s professional hockey career totals: 11 Seasons, 911 Games, 160 Goals, 240 Assists, 400 Points, and 4135 Penalty Minutes. Schultz played one season in the Eastern Hockey league in Roanoke, Virginia and two seasons in the American Hockey League in Quebec City and Richmond, Virginia. In addition,Dave Schultz has professionally coached the United and East Coast Hockey Leagues and has appeared on ESPN, NBC, ABC and Comcast.
After retiring from the NHL, Dave Schultz entered the world of business management. In 1986, Dave “The Entrepreneur” Schultz established Champion Limousines and continues to serve the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area by providing quality transportation to individuals, professionals and corporations.
