Pat Head Summit

No other basketball coach in the country, male or female, has enjoyed the success of Pat Head Summitt. As a player, Summitt won an Olympic silver medal in 1976 and as an international coach she brought home the first Women's Basketball gold medal in Olympic competition in 1984. Pat Head Summitt led her Tennessee Lady Volunteers to NCAA Championships in 1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, and 1997.

In October 1990, Pat Head Summitt was enshrined in the Women's Sports Foundation Hall of Fame. In the spring of 1994 and 1997, Summitt was named the Coach of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Columbus, Ohio, and also was a recipient at the 28th Victor Awards (benefiting the City of Hope) as the Women's Basketball Coach of the Year in 1994. In April 1996, she was inducted into the National Association for Sport and Physical Education’s Hall of Fame.
