BOB MURPHY

Bob Murphy

Bob Murphy's determination and perseverance have translated into success both on the course and off. At the close of a successful career on the PGA Tour in 1992, Bob was afflicted with severe arthritis. His determination to beat the condition and play on the Senior Tour led to 11 Senior titles.

Bob Murphy attributes his success as a player to his time as an ESPN Golf Commentator. As he analyzed players' games for the television viewers, he noticed flaws in his own game and began correcting them. Bob exploded onto the Senior PGA Tour in 1993- winning two tournaments and the Rookie of the Year award.

Bob Murphy's most successful year was 1995. He won four titles, including the IntelliNet Challenge, PaineWebber Invitational, Nationwide Championship, and VFW Senior Championship. In 1998 Bob won the Ben Hogan Award, which recognizes individuals remaining active in golf despite physical handicaps.

Bob Murphy will draw on his playing experience and resilient personality as he returns to the broadcast booth in 2000, where he will telecasting both PGA and Senior PGA events for NBC.
